This year as a commission is our year of total salvation. That means we are looking for people to be saved in its totality. Total salvation is made up of so many things glory, honour, riches, sanctification, joy but at the core is still Jesus. Jesus is still the reason we gather every time. Jesus must never be missing in his church. We are in the days of community, Jesus must be in the centre of the community. People are running to community - the wrong community. Don’t let community mislead you. Church is the bride of Christ first before it’s a community. We are becoming increasingly aware that we are in very complex times. The times we find ourselves in is not the easiest time for us to be a believer. You are going to have to reveal Jesus more and more in this time, if you truly say you are a believer. Every thing around us is challenging our Christianity, if you say you’re a Christian in work they way they begin to test your faith and your Christianity. Today, Christian’s do an okay job of sharing the word as and when it’s convenient for them. However, challenge yourself to share Gods word at every opportunity. We are missing conviction. We are missing boldness, we are missing the ability to speak Gods word at every given opportunity. That when you’re sat on a train but don’t make your Christianity a nuisance to other people. There is a time and a place. God will always make way for you. There must be a balance and leadings of the spirit but not the flesh. People sing at tube stations and you know it’s spirit-led and you know it is, when people gather. But don’t plan it. The days of going out to give people tracks and thinking it’s enough must end. The days of inviting people to purely your church must end. Invite them to Jesus first before you invite them to church because people may come to church and still not know Jesus. We invite them to the community but forget community and invite them to Jesus. Some people are so consumed with community and that’s why run clubs is on the rise. People are yearning for belonging yes but in the midst of the yearning, please look for Jesus. You don’t come to church to look for friends, you come to look for Jesus first and foremost. Jesus must be seen! Jesus has come and is standing at the front of his church today, KNOCKING. How can he knock to come into his own house? 1. Charles Spurgeon: “A church is a soul saving company or it’s nothing.” If a church is not saving souls, it’s doing nothing. The moment salvation stops in the church and people stop answering to altar calls, the church is dying. The church must always be saving souls. What is the point of people coming to a gathering and no one is being saved? What is truly happening in the midst of those people? 2. Charles Spurgeon: “If men will not come to hear us because we preach the gospel, draw them by no other means.” Growing up, a lot of churches went into this phase of using rapping and gimmicks but a lot of people drawn to church at the time, are still not in the church. Why? Because as much as it was entertaining, it didn’t really reveal Jesus to people. It revealed culture. We thought rapping to young adults is the way to get them to church but it is not rapping that you need, it’s Jesus that you need. What Charles Spurgeon says: don’t use gimmicks to draw people to church. If you have to convince people to come to church because of food we’ve lost the point. When the food stops, they will leave. To draw people to the gospel and preach the gospel, you must know the gospel. Question: This month of Soul-Winning and Evangelism, am I truly saved? The standard of Christianity has dropped so far that the member of the New Testament church in book of Acts is better than the pastor of today! 3. Charles Spurgeon: “The devil has seldom done a cleverer thing than hinting to the church that part of her mission is to provide entertainment for people.” Watch the YouTube during the week, you must be obsessed with Gods word. The reality is as you are in church you are forgetting already. Attention spans are excuses because some of you boys can play x box and PlayStation with your friends for 3-4 hours, you don’t lose attention span. But sitting in service for 45 mins, service is long - no you are lazy! You don’t like Jesus. 4. Charles Spurgeon: “Just because a church is large doesn’t mean that it is healthy. It could just be swollen.” We are growing in numbers but are we growing in depth? More people but more shallow people. More people who are failing to act on the commission that they’ve been given. Growing in number but are we growing in depth? Growing in number, are we growing in conviction? Growing in number, but are we growing in power? If someone was to say deny Christ, Jesus or a bullet? That is the reality of some of the Christian’s across the world. Christians in northern Nigeria, are being prosecuted and harassed in their services. We don’t have conviction until you’re being asked the option between your life and the thing you say believe in. People are being persecuted in China for what they believe, some people are smuggling cocaine but others are smuggling the bible. When you smuggle a bible, the return is a soul. The return is someone who may open up those words and find the words of eternal life, that may penetrate their heart and make them see Jesus and reveal Jesus to many other people. You’ve got friends and family who don’t know Jesus and you haven’t yet preached to them. Can you tell them about Jesus and, when you finish telling them about Jesus, can your life reveal to them Jesus as well? Your lifestyle and your words are not convincing, that’s why they are not following. 5. Pastor Francis Chan: ”Lukewarm people call radical what Jesus expected all of his followers to do.” We are being made today to feel like our passion for God is too much. You’re doing too much, you’re praying too much. You are going to church too much. But when they’re smoking, drinking and going around sleeping around too much who is talking to them? You feel bad because you’re coming to church on Sunday. Where is your conviction? Sunday you were in church but when you go to work, you tell them you just went out. Why are you so afraid to tell people of your stance for Jesus? Why can’t you say boldly that that I was in church? They are doing things all night - drinking all night and partying all night but you are shy to tell them you went to all night?! With the boldness people tell you of their sin, tell them of your Jesus. Your ears are filled with filth from what people say but can we also return with the message? Comfort is not a goal of the Christian life. Soft life does not exist in the kingdom. More and more as we live in these times, society is battling Gods word. Soft life is painted as a picture where you do little and you enjoy plenty. Everyone’s ambition is to have soft life. Grow up. Soft life is not part of the Christian walk. Waking up in the morning to pray is not comfortable. Sacrifice, losing and denying is all part of the Christian walk. * 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3(MSG) One of the biggest problems of the church today is not persecution but complacency. We’ve become so complacency. The goal was never to fill the church and break the walls, the goal was for Lewisham to change. The fact that there’s a church here, Lewisham must change. The fact you are here means Lewisham must change. When a pang comes to a woman in the midst of pregnancy, no warnings there will be maybe one, two or three signs but when it happens, it happens. People keep asking when will Jesus come? We don’t know but there are signs. It says that he is going to come suddenly! We cannot afford to be complacent. There must be urgency in our spirit in order to run. The book of Acts is the book of which the apostles began to do things. Thats why it’s called the book of Acts and not the book of intentions, the book of thoughts or what they might do soon. It was the book of Acts and the book of when they began to do things. The church must be doing things, the church must always be active. The church must not be stagnant. If our coming to church is not marked by actions, signs and wonders we missed the mark. That our salvation will mean something. As we begin to journey through the book today, ask yourself that; 1. Am I really saved the way I think I am? 2. What have I really encountered? Have I encountered Christ or the church? Some people maybe have not met the one they are testifying about. Second hand information is always dangerous. Have you ever played Chinese whispers? Somewhere along the way, the message is lost but if everyone is hearing from the originator, everyone would hear the same thing. When you encounter something first hand, no one can deny you what you’ve heard. The problem today is that congregants are so reliant on what one person is telling them, they don’t even go search and encounter that person for themselves. This whole chapter is focussed on Jesus Christ making the promise of the Holy Spirit, being called up into heaven and the disciples waiting. * Acts 1:8 (NLT) If you are going to preach with boldness, make sure you’ve received the Holy Spirit. When you’ve received the Holy Spirit, you’ll preach with boldness. When someone says they are spiritual, ask them how many people have you reached out to? Today we’ve made spirituality seem about praying in tongues. When you’re received the Holy Spirit, you’ll be a witness you preach with boldness and urgency. * Acts 1:8 (MSG) The reception of the power makes you able to do what you couldn’t do without the power. It makes you efficient and mighty. The Holy Spirit should be able to make you do what you wouldn’t ordinarily do by yourself. When you take in spirit (alcohol), there is a bravado that comes over them that they begin to speak in a way that they wouldn’t speak. They begin to do things, they wouldn’t normally do. Ordinarily, you know this person is shy but when they drink spirit they become super confident. Some men can only speak to women when they have taken in another spirit. Some people in going to do certain act take in alcohol or a drug to numb themselves of the reality of the things they are going to do. People are saying they can’t preach the gospel at work but it’s because you are going to work in your flesh. Can you go to work full of the holy spirit? When you try to do a spiritual activity in the flesh, it’s very difficult. Every spiritual activity has to be done in the spirit. * Acts 1:14 (NIV)/ (NKJV) There is something about being together that causes the Holy Spirit to come. * Acts 2:1-4 (NIV) In Verse 8 of Chapter 1, the Holy Spirit had been promised. So these disciples are sat there and waiting. Every single person that gathered as they were sat waiting, when the Holy Spirit came in they spoke in tongues. Your Christianity is only as relevant as your understanding of these things. This thing is not about community, this gathering we do here is about the gathering of saints. It’s about Jesus Christ being preached. You may be going to church but you may not understand what is being preached. * Acts 2:7 (NIV) * Acts 2:14 (NIV) This is Peter who denied Jesus Christ in the Gospels. After receiving the Holy Spirit in verse 4, Peter is preaching in verse 14. Some people have received the Holy Spirit, some people come from altar calls and need 3 months to think about what they need to do next. We will push you into heaven rather than applaud you into hell. * Acts 2:15 (NIV) 9am on the day they received the Holy Ghost, they are preaching. What time before 9 they received it that day. Acts 1 Jesus has promised the Holy Ghost, Acts 2 they receive the Holy Spirit and begin to preach. He didn’t wait or think, he just moved into preaching. * Acts 2:21 (NIV) In his preaching, he is being bold. We don’t have this boldness - we are too sure and too careful. We are being too slow. There’s no time. We are so engrossed in ourselves that we’ve forgotten there’s a bigger mission. As you’re sat there planning your birthday and your next year, can you plan what soul you are going to save next? Your Christianity is weak because it is convenient. People come to church when they’ve got time. Peter has been saved at 9am and is preaching. Every member what Peter is doing, is the standard. We’ve left preaching and healing just to pastors, so we’ve made pastors high and we are below them. So we just come and listen but it is also your job. In your office when there is an issue and people don’t understand, you’ll be able to ask the mind of God on that issue and reveal the mind of the office. Learn to ask God for yourself. 2026 we are moving into responsible Christianity. Why are you not confident to tell other people who don’t look like you about Jesus? It wasn’t even mid day and Peter was preaching. * Acts 2:37 (NIV) As Peter kept preaching on Gods word with boldness, look what happens. Preaching of Jesus’s word should make peoples heart be pricked and be cut. The word is meant to challenge you to do something for Jesus. This work here is not meant to make you comfortable, it’s meant to make you uncomfortable for Jesus. Stop coming to church for tickbox exercise. It’s not every service that will say take a blessing, you are the blessing. You are Gods gift to mankind so go and make impact wherever you find yourself. * Acts 2:38 (NIV) People say they are on a “journey.” You’ve been on a journey for 2 years and you’re still here on the journey. Why is there no progress? We are all in the same in the car, going on the same journey, reaching milestones but you alone are stuck in traffic jam? The answer is you never entered the car so you are still in the beginning of the journey. People religiously go to night club every single Friday, Saturday and Sunday they aren’t in a cult it’s their lifestyle. But you go to church one Sunday, join HoH and homecell and you are in a cult? If you sit there and let them tell you that - you are the problem. Sitting on a fence is costing you. You’re not a believer. You’ve not entered the era of believing Jesus, you’re still just attending a church. He wasn’t scared of their faces. Peter was preaching with conviction and boldness because he’d received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Why are we so scared? There’s something called umbilical cord that connects a baby to his mother. Some of you have an umbilical cord to the world; means you’re truly not cut. You feed from that source. 2026 it’s time to cut the cord. Until that’s cut this will be an issue. We are all going to make mistakes and fall short/sin but there’s a place you come to when we know the stance. Many people are still sat in church just attending but not knowing who Jesus is. * Acts 2:41 (NKJV) On Peters first day, he preached the message that had saved 3,000 people. Some people are being giving opportunities to lead and you think you’re bigger than the opportunity. It’s your ego that’s big. You don’t need a position in church to do the work of the ministry. This is the standard of every single one of us. * Acts 3:1 (NIV) Holy Spirit at 9am, healing at 3pm. That’s a 6 hour turn around. There was something Peter knew about the Holy Spirit that he had to run with it. This is what you call urgency. The lie of the enemy is that you have time. Some of us the opportunity to preach the gospel is there but you feel awkward about preaching the word of God because you don’t know there isn’t time. * Acts 3:10 (NIV) * Acts 3:12 (NIV) When we’ve received Jesus and preached Jesus, there must be signs. Every single opportunity, give the glory back to God. * Acts 3:19 (NIV) Repent is not crying. Some people have cried in church and still not changed, you’re just remembering something and it’s making you emotional. Crying in church is not repentance. True repentance is when you change direction. There must be something sudden about your transformation. Peter had received a promise in chapter 1, received the Holy Spirit in chapter 2, by chapter 3 he is preaching and healing people. * Acts 4:1 (NIV) The preaching of our gospel is going to irritate men and women. People will try to stop you. If no one has told you to relax on how you preach Jesus, maybe you haven’t preached Jesus enough. Our preaching will disturb people. Can you continue in the face of opposition? When people are telling you you are doing too much, will you still keep on preaching? * Acts 4:4 (NIV) Peter in day one of receiving Jesus had 8,000 people saved. Can we start again properly? Can we do this crusade for Jesus properly? So that he can say well done my Good and faithful servant? You wanna preach to nations but you can’t even speak to your neighbour. You can’t even speak to the people in your home. Preach in the place you live. Preach there. You don’t even know the price someone is paying to preach in those places. If anyone is to be famous by preaching, it must be Jesus and not us. * Acts 4:7 (NIV) There must be something supernatural about the way we live our lives for people to say how do you do this. The way you do your business - how do you do it? The way you are joyful how do you do it? * Acts 4:8-9 (NIV) We must be filled with the Holy Ghost. When Peter became filled, he was bold and he didn’t care. * Acts 4:10 (NIV) Do you know how bold Peter is that in the face of people asking him how do you do this, he says the person you killed is the name I am using to raise the dead. Many of us would have ran. See sometimes we try and find words to be relevant. * Acts 4:11-12 (NIV) People reject Jesus and people reject you. Peter was in trouble but he was telling them that salvation is found in no one else. Even in the midst of persecution. * Acts 4:13 (NIV) May people take note that we have been with Jesus. That when people see us, they will see there is something different about you. They will see that you have been with Jesus * Mark 3:13-15 (NIV) Jesus is always calling men to himself to send him to preach. Jesus is not calling you to himself for a nice car or for comfort. Unfortunately we’ve preached so much prosperity, but that’s not the main core of the Christian walk. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness should be added onto you. * Acts 4:13-14 (NIV) When you preach Jesus and there are results - that will be the end. There will be nothing anyone can say. The problem is when you preach Jesus with no results because we’ve preached our church, not Jesus. Fun shouldn’t be why people follow you to church. Your premise for people coming to church is that Jesus is being revealed. * Acts 4:29-31 (NIV) They prayed for boldness one more time to speak Gods word. From today, we begin to preach with boldness and urgency. We don’t want to have false Christianity. Our Christianity should be authentic and we have a responsibility. We have responsibilities as a Christian. We are too preoccupied with the community part of the church that we’ve missed out on Jesus. Calling on you to rise up and begin to preach Jesus with boldness and urgency. There is no time. Passion is transferable, when you see passion for Jesus it’s infectious. Some of you, your friends are starting to do things because you do it. Can your friends start to follow Jesus because you follow Jesus?
